Thousands of people turned out in the Pakistani city of Karachi to show their support for the Pakistani military in its fight against militants in the north of the country.
The rally was organized by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the strongest party in country's commercial capital Karachi.
Pakistan's military launched a ground assault in the North Waziristan tribal area on June 30, beginning a new phase in its offensive against Taliban militants.
Since the air operation began June 15, more than 400 militants have been killed.
Local MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said Pakistan was suffering at the hands of religious extremists.

"We are suffering in the ailment of extremism, and religious extremism, especially for the last 30 years in Pakistan. Right now we are facing one of the chronic ailments that is terrorism."
The Taliban are believed to be responsible for attacks in Pakistan targeting civil and military targets, as well as sectarian killings.
