Thousands of Libyans gathered in Tripoli's Martyrs' Square late Sunday to celebrate the eve of the third anniversary of the 2011 Libyan revolution.
More celebrations are planned for Monday, but many in the Libyan capital took to the streets late Sunday to watch the fireworks, cheering and waving flags.
Monday will mark the third anniversary of the start of the revolution that ousted Moammar Gadhafi from power in 2011.
One Tripoli resident at the celebrations said she felt indescribable joy.

"Today my happiness is indescribable. Great, great joy. What can I say? I think I'm going to fly with joy. I hope that my country will be united together, and may God protect all Libyans, from the East to West, from South to North, may God protect them all, elders and youngsters."
Libya has been roiled by instability and violence since the ouster of Gadhafi's government in late 2011.
