Thousands of women in the Philippines' capital celebrated International Women's Day Saturday with a landmark observance.
Organizers in Manila had the women stand in a formation representing the female symbol.
The Philippine Commission on Women is hoping the mass creation of the cross-like symbol will land them in the Guinness World Records book.
But a spokeswoman says their primary intention was to reaffirm their commitment to creating an enabling environment for women and to help them in the uplifting of their family and and communities.
International Women's Day is being celebrated worldwide Saturday.
The U.N. calls the occasion a time to reflect on progress made and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
