Eliz: Let’s listen to today’s Business Dialog.
Vickie is interviewing for a job at Nolton Publishing, Inc.
She is speaking with Nick Colson, manager of the
Editorial Department.
SFX: office
Colson : From your resume, it looks like you’ve changed jobs
three times in two years.
Vickie: Yes, I’ve been trying to find a job where I can become
an editor.
At my last three jobs, I did some editing.
But I was considered more of an administrative assistant.
Colson : So that’s why you’ve decided to apply here?
Vickie: Yes, and I believe that I have the editing skills you need.
Colson : What kinds of things have you edited?
Vickie: Well, I’ve worked on a wide variety of projects.
At Harrison Publishing, I worked mostly on
children’s books.
And at Bock’s Books, I was in the reference department.
Colson : I see. Your degree is in Business, isn’t it?
Vickie: Yes, but I did a minor in Journalism.
And I worked as an editor on the school newspaper.
Colson : Well, Vickie, I’ll have to think this over and give you a call.
In the meantime, I’d like to look at some samples of
your work.
Vickie: Sure. I’ve got some samples right here.

Gary
A leading question is when you state information and then wait for the other person to confirm or deny it.
