FIB Opening

Eliz: Hello, I'm Elizabeth Moore. Welcome to
Functioning in Business.

Larry: Today's unit is "Coming to Agreement, Part 5."
Today program focuses on Certainty and
Uncertainty."

Agreement, Part 5."

Story Interlude: A Hazy Day

Larry: OK... and we’re off the air.

Kathy: Wow! Can you believe how hot it is today?

Max: I know. It’s really hot.

Larry: Yes, it’s hot today. Summer is finally here!

Kathy: And it’s so humid!
It feels like it’s going to rain.
But I don’t think it will.

Larry: We had the air conditioning on all night.

Max: We did, too.
Is it always this hot and humid in D.C., Larry?

Larry: Unfortunately, yes.
And years ago nobody had air conditioning.

Kathy: What did you do?

Larry: We had fans! Lots of fans!
And we slept with the windows open.

Kathy: The weather report says it’ll get better by the end of the
week.

Larry: I sure hope so!

Functioning in Business.

SFX: Elizabeth entering

Eliz: Hi, Max, Kathy.
Boy, it’s hot outside!

Max: We know. I think I’ll stay inside today!

Hazy, h a z y, hazy,

Larry: Alri-i-i-ght. Ready for Functioning in Business. Quiet,

FIB MUSIC lead-in and then background

Interview: Charles Blake

Eliz: Today, we are talking again to Mr. Charles Blake.

SFX: Phone beep

Eliz: Hello, Mr. Blake.

Blake: Hello again!

Eliz: Today, we’re listening to your conversation with Mr.
Chapman.

Blake: Yes, at the end of the conversation, we talked about the
issue of spare parts.

Eliz: Let’s listen to that conversation.

MUSIC

Blake

Dialog: FIB Dialog, Meeting with Chapman and Blake

Larry: Dialog

Saly:
Chapman

Electronic sensors indicate problems before they become serious.

Extra parts can be flown in rather than stored.

Chap: So... the one remaining question is that of
spare parts.

(pause)
And that may not be as difficult as we think.

Blake: What do you mean?

Chap: Well, according to your technical reports, your
robots are very reliable.

They rarely break down in their first five years.
Am I right?

Blake: Yes, that’s right.
But it’s important to follow the maintenance
schedule.

In most cases, electronic sensors indicate
problems before they become serious.

Chap: So in that case, extra parts can be flown in rather
than stored.

Blake: Absolutely. We can guarantee delivery by air
within thirty-six hours.

And our technical support will be available
twenty-four hours a day!

Chap: Excellent!

MUSIC
