U.S. President Barack Obama begins a landmark 3-day visit to Cuba Sunday.

He will be the first U.S. leader to visit the island since president Calvin Coolidge landed there nearly 90 years ago.

The historic trip will also mark the first time a U.S. has traveled to Cuba since Fidel Castro and his guerrillas overthrow the U.S. -backed government of Fulgencio Batista in 1959.

While former president Fidel Castro is still alive, Obama is not set to meet him, but will instead hold a meeting with current Cuban President Raul Castro, Fidel's younger brother.

Some people both in Cuba and the U.S. are upset President Obama is travelling to the island while a member of the Castro family remains in poer. U.S. officials have said, however, Cuba's human rights issues will be a focal point of Obama's meeting with President Castro and a television address to the Cuban people. Obama has also scheduled talks with Cuban dissidents and entrepreneurs.
