Kent: Hello. This is the New Dynamic English Man on the Street, Kent Moss.

I’m at the FDR Memorial in Washington, D.C.

FDR was Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the thirty-second president of the United States.

Excuse me, ma’am?

Marge: Yes?

Kent: Are you here to learn more about President Roosevelt?

Marge: I want to learn more about Mrs. Roosevelt.

Kent: Mrs. Roosevelt? The President’s wife?

Marge: Yes. I think Eleanor Roosevelt was a great American.

She helped poor people in America and other people who needed help.

Kent: She came from a rich family, didn’t she?

Marge: Yes, she did. Both she and her husband Franklin came from very rich families.

But Eleanor’s mother and father both died when she was a child.

Kent: When did she marry Franklin Roosevelt?

Marge: They got married in 1905, when Eleanor was twenty-one.

After Franklin Roosevelt became president in 1933, she worked with him to help poor Americans.

She was a very active First Lady.

Kent: What did she do after her husband died?

Marge: He died in 1945, but Eleanor continued to work for human rights.

Kent: She lived a long life, didn’t she?

Marge: Yes, she did. She was born in 1884, and she died in 1962, at the age of 78.

She was a wonderful woman and a great American.

Kent: Thank you for talking with me today.

ຂ້າພະເຈົ້າກໍຈະວ່າ I went to school in New Zealand.

Story Interlude: Kathy wants a loan

Larry: OK... and we’re off the air.

Kathy: Sorry, I have to go. I have an appointment.

Max: What’s up, Kathy?

Kathy: I’m thinking about buying a house!

Max: Hey, that’s great news!

Kathy: But first I need to get a loan.

So today I’m going to meet with someone at my bank.

Max: So you’re going to get a loan. That’s a big step.

What kind of place are you looking for?

Kathy: I’m going to get a condominium here in D.C.

Max: Oh, so you already have a place picked out?

Kathy: Well, no. Not yet. I need to arrange for a loan first.

Max: Well, good luck!

I hope you get a low interest rate!

Kathy: Thanks!

Saly: ຄຳວ່າ loan – l o a n – loan ແປວ່າເງິນຢືມ ຫຼືເງິນກູ້ຢືມ. I’m going to get a loan. ຂ້ອຍຈະແປວ່າຢືມເງິນກໍວ່າໄດ້.
