Gary.

Eliz: Gary’s Tips with Gary Engleton.

Charles: You know that I’ve always done my best to help you.

I’ve always done my best

I was wondering if you could help me.

Betty: If you could help me meet him, I’d really appreciate it.

Charles: I’ll certainly do what I can.

Saly: ຄຳກິຣິຍາ appreciate, a p p r e c i a t e, appreciate, ເປັນຄຳສຸພາບທີ່ເວົ້າອອກມາເພື່ອສະແດງວ່າເຮົາພໍໃຈຫຼືການຮູ້ບຸນຄຸນເຊັ່ນໃນປະໂຫຽກ: “ຖ້າເຈົ້າຊ່ອຍຂ້ອຍໄດ້ ແນະນຳໃຫ້ຂ້ອຍຮູ້ຈັກກັບລາວ ຂ້ອຍຈະຂອບໃຈເຈົ້າເປັນຢ່າງຍິ່ງ.”

If you could help me meet him, I’d really appreciate it.

Epstein: If you could keep me informed of any new developments, I’d really appreciate it.

Blake: I’ll certainly do that.

Eliz: Now it’s time for Gary’s Tips with Gary Engleton!

Gary: Hello, Elizabeth! Today I’ll be talking about requests and promises.

In today’s Business Dialog, Betty asks Charles a favor.

One way to ask a favor is to say “I’d like to ask you a favor.”

She uses another expression, “I have a favor to ask of you.”

Let’s listen:

Betty: Charles, I have a favor to ask of you.

Charles: You know that I’ve always done my best to help you.

Gary: Betty tells Charles what she needs, and then she uses the expression, “I was wondering if you could help me.”

This is a polite way to make a request.

Betty: I need an introduction to Henry Hightower, the President of Global Tires, Inc.

I was wondering if you could help me.

Gary: Later on, she repeats her request, using this expression:

Betty: If you could help me meet him, I’d really appreciate it.

Charles: I’ll certainly do what I can.

Gary: This conversation is similar to the earlier conversation between Mr. Epstein and Mr. Blake.

Let’s listen:

Epstein: If you could keep me informed of any new developments, I’d really appreciate it.

Blake: I’ll certainly do that.

Gary: Making requests and promises are an important part of using English in business situations.

I hope today’s tips were helpful!

Thanks for joining us today.

Eliz: Thanks, Gary!
