Larry and Ly just went to see the latest horror movie and they are discussing their impression of the movie as they leave the theater.
ໃຫ້ຟັງແລຣີ ອະທິບາຍຄຳວ່າ to go overboard ຄັກໆ.

LH: That was so scary! What did you think of the movie, Larry?

LL: Actually, I think it was kind of disappointing. I think the director went a little overboard with some of the special effects.

LH: What do you mean “went overboard”? Do you mean the special effects were poorly done?

LL: No. To go overboard – OVERBOARD – with something is to go too far with it or use too much of it. I think the director relied too much on special effects.

LH: Oh, I see. The director used too many special effects and it made the movie less believable.

LL: Exactly. I think the writers went a little overboard, too.

LH: What do you mean? How could the writers go overboard?

LL: Well, the writers created a main character who is a pilot, a linguist, a professor, and an expert in martial arts. That sounds a little overboard to me!

LH: Oh, the writers tried to give the character too many good qualities and they ended up making him unrealistic.

LL: Yup. Of course, maybe I’m going a little overboard by analyzing a movie so much. After all, it is just a movie.

LH: That’s right. It’s okay if movies go overboard sometimes – that’s part of what makes them entertaining.

LL: Aaaagh….

LH: What’s wrong?

LL: My stomach hurts. I think I went overboard with the popcorn.

LH: I told you not to eat so much popcorn!

Ly: That was so scary! What did you think of the movie, Larry?

LL: Actually, I think it was kind of disappointing. I think the director went a little overboard with some of the special effects.

LL: No. To go overboard – O-V-E-R-B-O-A-R-D – with something is to go too far with it or use too much of it. I think the director relied too much on special effects.
To go overboard with

LL: Well, the writers created a main character who is a pilot, a linguist, a professor, and an expert in martial arts.

Ly: That’s right. It’s okay if movies go overboard sometimes – that’s part of what makes them entertaining.

LL: Aaaagh….

Ly: What’s wrong?

LL: My stomach hurts. I think I went overboard with the popcorn.

Ly: I told you not to eat so much popcorn!

ໃຫ້ຟັງສຳນວນ to pig out ກັບ to guzzle ທີ່ແປວ່າກິນ ແຕ່ວ່າ ກິນແບບໃດລ່ະ?

LL: Aaaagh (groan) ….

Ly: What’s the matter? Does your stomach still hurt?

LL: Well, I pigged out on popcorn and then I was really thirsty, so I guzzled a large soda. Now, I’m really uncomfortable.

Ly: What does guzzle mean? Do you mean that you drank a large soda?

LL: Yeah, to guzzle – GUZZLE -- something is to drink it quickly. The salt in the popcorn made me really thirsty, so I guzzled a bunch of soda.

Ly: No wonder your stomach hurts! It’s bad enough that you ate all that popcorn and then, on top of that, you guzzled a soda!

LL: I know. I know. I’m suffering the consequences of my actions.

Ly: I never guzzle soda. The bubbles in the soda upset my stomach if I drink it too quickly.

LL: Usually, I know better than to guzzle soda, too. I just suffered a temporary lapse in judgment.

Ly: Oh well. We had better get you home so that you can guzzle some stomach medicine.

LL: That’s a good idea. I have some Pepto Bismol in my medicine cabinet. That should make me feel better.

Ly: Next time you feel the need to guzzle something, try guzzling water instead!

ທ່ານຜູ້ຟັງ ແລະ ນ້ອງໆນັກສຶກສາ ພໍເຂົ້າໃຈແລ້ວຕິ ຄວາມໝາຍຂອງຄຳວ່າ to pig out ກັບ to guzzle? He or she eats like a pig.

LL: I know.
