Police in the Philippines say the suspect in the deadly attack on a casino in the capital last week has been identified as Jesse Carlos.
Manila Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said Carlos' family reported he was "heavily indebted due to being hooked on casino gambling."
Philippine authorities say Carlos stormed the Resorts World Manila and torched gambling tables in the crowded space, creating a choking smoke that killed at least 36 people.
The gunman stuffed a backpack with casino chips before he fled, but was found dead in an adjacent hotel early Friday of an apparent suicide.
Albayalde said the bodies were found in smoky rooms by firefighters and all died from suffocation and smoke inhalation. None had gunshot wounds.
Police have consistently dismissed claims by the Islamic State terror group that the casino attack was the work of one of its fighters, even though IS issued two separate claims through its official channels.
Police stressed there was no evidence to support claims of terrorism.
