Tensions are running high in Venezuela's capital (Caracas) Sunday after protesters clashed with police, two days before another round of talks on ending the political unrest that has killed dozens of people in recent months.
Police used tear gas and water cannon Saturday against protesters who were throwing rocks and tear gas at them in Caracas.
A student protester:
“We represent the young now, not those people gathered together for a dialogue to talk about things in an air conditioned room. No, we are in the street.”
The protester was mocking talks held Thursday in Caracas. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro met for six hours with opposition groups in a session mediated by foreign ministers from the Unasur block of South American governments.
Back on the street, some protestors say government forces of inciting the violence.
A university student:
“The government won’t let us walk around freely and they always attack us when we are protesting peacefully.
Another round of talks is set for Tuesday.
