Taiwan has condemned China for voting into law an anti-secession bill that threatens war against the island if it resists Beijing's push for unification. A Cabinet spokesman in Taipei (Cho Jung-tai) told reporters that Taiwan's entire population -- 23 million people -- is opposed to the legislation, and he says the world community shares that feeling.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice leaves on her first diplomatic mission to Asia today (Monday), where she will focus on persuading North Korea to return to six-party disarmament talks. Ms. Rice will travel to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Japan, South Korea and China before returning to Washington on March 21st.

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (at Ramallah) in the West Bank today (Monday) to help push forward peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Lebanese opposition groups are holding a mass anti-rally in Beirut today, one month after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
