ASEAN Moves Up Deadline for Free Trade Zone - 2005-01-11


Two ASEAN members, Singapore and Thailand, see the goal to incorporate all member-nations into one completely free trade zone by the year 2020 is too distant, and agreed to move the target date up by five years. To achieve this end, they say they will do all they can to help the newer, less-developed members, i.e Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, to be ready to implement AFTA by 2015.
