The US ambassador to Laos told VOA in an exclusive interview that NTR will help pull Laos increasingly toward the world of responsible nations, to become a stronger member of ASEAN, and perhaps help ASEAN itself to become a strponger group of ten nations, and help strengthen the rule of law.
The ambassador also says NTR will help him be able to make progress in a number of areas, not just purely on the economic front, including the area of human rights which, he says, need a lot of improvements.
As for the U.S., NTR will allow many more opportunities for the government and private citizen Americans to be engaged and involved in Laos, to do business in Laos, and to show the Lao people what American entrepreneurship is all about. All of which are very much in America's interests.
