Dalai Lama
Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama made history Thursday when he led the traditional opening prayer in the U.S. Senate.
The Dalai Lama has visited the Capitol many times, but this was the first time he ever led the lawmakers in prayer.
He spoke first in Tibetan, and then offered what he called his "favorite daily prayer," which he said to give himself inner strength.
"As long as space remains and as long as sentient beings remain, until then may I too remain and help dispel the misery of the world. Thank You."
Later, the Dalai Lama met with Speaker of the House of Representatives -- Republican John Boehner -- and Democratic Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi. Both say his work for religious freedom and tolerance has always brought Congress together in a spirit of bipartisanism.
In an interview taped for later broadcast, the Dalai Lama told television host Larry King that he has no objections to gay marriage. He said if two people really feel that way, it is their business and it is ok.
