The ((western U.S. state of)) Idaho hometown of U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has canceled a rally planned to celebrate his release after nearly five years of captivity, amid growing questions about the circumstances of the soldier's capture.
Organizers Wednesday said the small mountain community of 8,000 people lacks the resources to host the thousands of people, supporters and protesters expected at the event because of national media attention on Bergdahl's story.
The Taliban captured the 28-year-old soldier in 2009, about two months after he arrived in Afghanistan.
Questions remain about the events that led to his capture, with some critics calling Bergdahl a deserter.
U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said it is unfair to Bergdahl's family to "presume anything," and that "we do not do that in the United States, we rely on the facts."
Hagel told reporters at a NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels that he "does not know of any circumstances or details of U.S. soldiers dying as a result of efforts to get Bergdahl."
Earlier, the Afghan Taliban released a video showing Bergdahl's handover.

The 17-minute video made public Wednesday, shows Bergdahl clean shaven, including his head. He is dressed in traditional Afghan clothing.
Bergdahl is handed over to several men who arrive in a military-style helicopter. Twice during the video, the words "Don't come back to Afghanistan" appear on the screen.
The Taliban freed Bergdahl Saturday after five years of captivity, in exchange for five Afghan detainees who were held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The five prisoners were flown Sunday to Qatar after the Taliban released Bergdahl. Under terms of the swap, the detainees from Guantanamo are barred from leaving Qatar for one year.
