The US military in Iraq says three American soldiers were killed in renewed fighting in the southern city of Najaf on Sunday. The military did not provide any details about the circonstences of the deaths.

Officials in Pakistan say five security-force members have been killed in two separate attacks in the southwestern part of the country. Four paramilitary troops were said to have been killed and 10 others wounded early today(Monday) when assailants attacked security guards escorting workers of a state-run oil and gas company near the town of Sui.

Burma has dismissed U.S criticism of its political reforms, saying Sunday its seven-step program will lead to a sustainable democracy. A government statement said the transition to democracy is not a race, and that Burma has the support of other, unspecified nations in trying to achieve its goal.
