The Lao government is pushing ahead with the construction of the first railroad between Thailand and Laos by choosing a Thai company as a project consultant, in accordance with the requirements set by Thailand, who is paying for the 197-million-Baht project. One third of the money is a gift to Laos, while the rest is a loan.
Meanwhile, Australia's Oxiana Resources says it has started importing equipments needed to begin its copper-mining project in Laos. Oxiana expects to export copper from its Sepone mine in 2005.
