Over one hundred thousand Laotians enter the work force every year, bu the job market is able to take in less than ten thousands, resulting in the rise of unemployment rate and the exodus of thousands of Lao workers to seek employment in neighboring Thailand illegally.
However, that traditional way out is now closed to them because of a new Thai decree that bans the hiring of illegal workers from Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar as house-maids and gardeners.
