Nerakhoun: 2009 Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Feature

The Oscar nominee movie, Nerakhoon, is one of a kind. The first ever documentary directed by a Lao-American (Thavisouk Phrasavath) depicts the life of Lao refugees in Brooklyn, New York, from their journey to this previously unknown new country to their struggle to live a normal life and to fit in, including all the ordeals they had to endure - gang violence, assault, robbery and even death. Nerakhoon Documentary takes 23 long years to finish.

Currently, the Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film and the Foundation for the National Archives at the William McGowan Theater has a free screening from 18-22 February as follow:
