Laos Today: International Organizations Still Concerned About Laos' NT2 Social and Environmental Impacts

Although NT 2 investors say the construction of the controversial dam is progressing as planned, international financial organizations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank say they are still concerned that investors will not be able to adequately prevent the social and environmental impacts of the dam.

For one thing, the evacuation of the more than 1,200 households to be evacuated from the reservoir area has been very slow. During the past year or so since the beginning of the construction, only 52 households have been relocated.

They also fear for the safety and future of the residents of the more than 200 villages who live downstream of the dam.
