Laos Today: Donors Unhappy with Laos' Fiscal Performances

Foreign donors express dissatisfaction with the inefficient way their aid money was spent during the last five fiscal years, saying the Lao government did not spend it according to planned targets. Furthermore, some of the funds were unaccounted for, and channeled to be used for personal benefits.

During 2001-2005, Laos received foreign assistance worth approximately 400 million dollars a year, about 80% of its annual budget or 17% of its GDP.
