Laos Today: Over 1000 Illegal Lao Workers Arrested and Sent Back From Thailand Each Month

Thai experts say Lao nationals continue to flock to Thailand to look for employment and illegally work there, especially workers from the southern provinces of Laos, who have been detained by Thai authorities and sent back to Laos at an average rate of more than 1,000 per month.

The experts say poverty was the reason behind the exodus, and most workers have to pay a high price to brokers before they could work.

There are reportedly around three hundred thousand illegal workers from Laos in Thailand, and a little over one hundred thousands have legally registered.
