Over 40,000 Lao students finish secondary education in the year school year 2004-05, 5,000 more than the previous year. But less than half will be able to go on to higher education due to limited number of acceptance into state and private universities.
As a result, many sectors are worried that the situation will lead to social problems. Many fears a lot of the students will enter Thailand and work there illegally while others will become drug addicts.
