Laos Today: Lao Villagers Evacuated from NT2 Dam Area Say Their Living Condition Has Improved

Villagers evacuated from the Nam Theun 2 Dam Reservoir area to a new settlement say their living conditions have improved, and express confidence that they will get better when the dam construction is completed.

Actual construction of the controversial dam started in February 2005 and has so far been on schedule. But investors hope to finish the project in mid-2009, six months ahead of schedule, so that they can use the six-month period to test-run the dam to make sure that it can start transmitting electricity to Thailand in 2010.
