South Korean Police Shoot, Wound US Soldier

Officials in Seoul say a U.S. soldier is in stable condition after South Korean police shot him in a high-speed chase in the capital city.

Police say they received complaints shortly before midnight Saturday of two American soldiers threatening people with an air gun in the district of Itaewon. When police approached the two, the soldiers fled in a car. Police say they chased the two through the city, firing a blank warning shot and three live rounds, hitting the driver.

A wounded private first-class and the second soldier, a staff sergeant - both in their 20s - were taken to the Yongsan district, home of the U.S. Yongsan Army Garrison.

The U.S. Eighth Army Public Affairs Office said initial results did not show alcohol was involved in the incident, but provided no further details. Officials said an investigation is ongoing.
