U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says there is a limited period of time for negotiations with Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

He spoke after talks Monday in Riyadh with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, who agreed the "negotiations cannot go on forever."

Kerry is also meeting Monday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, two weeks before the secretary is due to accompany President Barack Obama on a trip to Israel.

The meetings in Saudi Arabia are part of Kerry's first overseas tour as secretary of state. He is scheduled to close the trip with stops in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

In Cairo Sunday, Kerry said the United States will provide Egypt with $190 million in immediate aid as part of a larger $450 million package to help spur crucial economic reforms. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi gave assurances that his government will implement political and economic changes to help stabilize the divided country.

Earlier, Kerry made stops in Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Turkey.
