Laos sets a goal to lift 52,000 households out of poverty during the 2004-05 fiscal year. But, based on past performance, it is doubtful that the goal will be reached.
Laos set the same target for fiscal year 2003-04 but was able to raise the standard of living for just over 30,000 families only, due to budget constraint.
