The water level of the Mekong in the northern part of Laos has gone down considerably in recent weeks, causing environmentalists to believe that this year might again bring drought to nations of the Mekong Sub-region. The main reason is said to be wo major dams up the Mekong river in China’s Yunnan province.
Environmentalists say China opens those dams only when there is a need to navigate the Mekong downstream.
