Laos is making an all-out effort to show the international community the importance of the controversial Nam Theun 2 hydropower project and the need for it, by inviting members of the diplomatic corps and foreign press to tour the project area to see that it has met all requirements set by the World Bank for loan guarantee.
Meanwhile, Lao authorities acknowledge that deforestation has shrunk the national forest to only about 40% of the nation’s land area.
