Hmong-American Representative Tells UN Conference of Laos Genocide Against Minorities - 2005-02-24

In an exclusive interview with VOA, Dr. Vang Pobzeb, Executive Director of the Lao Human Rights Council, Inc., and representative of Hmong people, says he was invited to participate in the 66th Session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination at the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, where he also met with officials of the UNHCR and with officials of the Office of the Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations.

Dr. Vang Pobzeb tells VOA he has submitted documents and proposals from United Hmong International, Inc., and the Lao Human Rights Council, Inc., to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the problems of ethnic cleansing warfare and genocide against Hmong people and other minority tribes in Laos.

He says he has also requested the UNHCR and Royal Thai Government to create new refugee camps in Thailand, for those new Hmong political refugees to stay temporarily in Thailand, and to allow them to seek family reunification and resettlement in the United States and other third countries.
