President Bush is expected to call for a new era of trans-Atlantic cooperation and urge Europe to help build democracy in Iraq when he makes a major foreign policy speech today (Monday) in Brussels.

Israel has freed 500 Palestinian prisoners as part of ongoing cooperation with the Palestinian Authority. The Israeli military said the prisoners were bused early today (Monday) from a military detention center (Ketziot) in southern Israel, and released at checkpoints in the West Bank and Gaza.

At least 116 people are confirmed dead in Bangladesh from a ferry that capsized on the Buriganga river.

Former U.S. Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton have toured tsunami-devastated Sri Lanka. The pair viewed the island's ravaged coastline by helicopter today (Monday), and inspected water purification equipment provided by U.S. aid.
