The World Bank has begun appraisal of Laos’ controversial Nam Theun II hydroelectric project. A team of Bank experts visited Laos in January to begin the process of assessing the broad preliminary work of the US$1.2 billion project to confirm whether the work complies with the Bank’s requirements before it can approve loan guarantees for investors.
