Iraqi electoral officials say final results of the country's first free elections in 50 years will be announced today. An electoral commission spokesman says parties will have three parties will havr three days to challenge the results of the January 30th vote before they become certified.

The Israeli government has approved the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in the next few days. Israeli officials say a ministerial committee approved a list of 500 prisoners ahead of a regularly scheduled cabinet meeting today. The prisoner release is one of several Israeli gestures to bolster Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who reached a ceasefire agreemnet with Israeli Prime minister Ariel Sharon at a summit in Egypt on Tuesday.

Pakistan's death toll from flooding and avalanches has climbed to 340, with fears the number of people killed could go much higher. President Pervez Musharraf flew over the southwestern province of Baluchistan to survey the destruction. Meanwhile, heavy rains continue to plague Pakistan in the south while snowstorms have shut down the north.
