Iraqi authorities say a suicide car bomber struck near the office of Prime minister Iyad Allawi's political party in central Baghdad today, wounding at least 10 people, most of them policemen. The terrorist group led by Iraq's most-wanted fugitive, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, is claiming responsibility for the bombing.

New Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is making his first state visit today, one day after his inauguration. Mr. Yushchenko will be in Moscow where he will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and reaffirm Ukraine's desire to continue close ties with its northern neighbor.

Vietnam's deputy health minister says it is unlikely that three brothers who contracted bird flu passed it to each other. One of the brothers died from the disease on January 9. A second brother who had been caring for the man who died then came down with bird flu. He is recovering, but a third brother also has tested positive for the deadly strain of avian flu.
