Insurgents in Baghdad dragged three Iraqi electio workers from a car in central Baghdad today and shot them to death-- the latest in a series of attempts to disrupt nest month's national elections. Witnesses say the victims were attacked on Haifa Street, a bastion of Sunni Arab militants who have vowed to sabotage the January 30 vote.

President Bush says he expects a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians during the New Year, and he pledges his personal efforts to ensure a diplomatic breakthrough. In an interview published today in Israel, Mr. Bush says all sides in the Middle East conflict mus "understand that peace is not something that is arrived at through words, but through deeds."

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has rejected Thailand's claim that Islamic separatists are using Malaysia as a base to destabilize southern Thailand. Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said Friday taht some of the Muslim militants waging an insurgency in southern Thailand had been trained in Malaysia. He told reporters he believed the training had been given in religious schools without the knwoledge or support of the Malaysian government.
