Iraqi police say unidentified gunmen have killed a senior official of the country's communication ministry. Police said Qassim Mehawi was assassinated in a drive-by shooting as he was heading to work in Baghdad today. Senior Iraqi government officials are frequent targets of insurgents, who accuse them of collaborating with U.S. led forces.

A human rights organization is calling on the international community to investigate what it says is evidence of genocide in Burma. The Britain-based Christian Solidarity Worldwide organization released a report Wednesday detailing findings from a recent mission to refugee camps on the border of Thailand and Burma.

Thai authorities have arrested four Muslim men in connection with months of sectarian violence in Thailand's strife-torn, Muslim-majority south. Thai Prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra says the four were key figures in organizing the violence. One of those arrested, Waeuso Waedueramae, is suspected of being the mastermind hehind a January raid by Islamic militants on a military outpost, which resulted in the killing of four soldiers and the seizing of hundreds of weapons.
