Lao-Americans Celebrate Thanksgiving Day - 2004-11-27


In an interview with VOA, Ms. Ly Vang, the Executive Director of The Association for the Advancement of Hmong Women in Minnesota, Inc., says the majority of Hmong-Americans living in the state of Minnesota celebrate Thanksgiving Day as an opportunity to get together with immediate family members and close friends and to share the meals after a long separation.

She says usually the Hmong families cook the their traditional foods for the elderly and American foods for the young generation.

Mrs. Sacksith Chanthapanya in Sterling, Virginia, also talks to VOA about her Thanksgiving celebration. She says each year her family rotates the location of celebration. For this year her family will join the party at her sister-in-law residence. She has her own menu for the Thanksgiving meals which consists mainly of Lao food.
