Ukraine's pro-western opposition leader called on his supporters throughout the country today to step up protests against alleged election fraud that cost him votes in Sunday's run-off presidential ballot, until he is recognized as the winner of the election.

Asian and Pacific leaders have promised to fight global terrorism and pledged their continuing efforts to lower barriers to free trade throughout the world. Members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum--China, the United States and 19 other Pacific Rim nations wrapped up their two-day summit in Santiago, Chile with a joint declaration and said they are optimistic about the region's future economic growth.

Police in Thailand's restive south have fatally shot two suspected Islamic militants. The unidentified gunmen were killed in a brief exchange of fire early this morning in Pattani province, after they shot at two policemen. Neither of the two officers was harmed.
