Americans are heading to the polls today to elect the next U.S. president. The latest public opinion surveys show a virtual tie between Republican incumbent George W. Bush and Democratic challenger, Senator John Kerry. Both candidates visited several key voting states Monday, starting early in the morning and campaigning late into the night, They will make more public appearances today.

Iraqi Interior Ministry officials say a car bomb has exploded in northern Baghdad. News reports from the area today say at least five people were killed and several others wounded in the blast outside the Education Ministry building in the Azamiyah district of the capital. The explosion also damaged the ministry building. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Burma's new prime minister, Lietenant General Soe Win, has arrived in China for his first overseas trip since taking office. General Soe Win arrived today to attend a business and investment summit bringing together China and member countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The new Burmese prime minister is expected to meet some of his counterparts on the sidelines of the summit.
