Fighting has erupted between U.S. forces and insurgents in the central Iraqi city of Ramadi, killing at least six people and wounding at least eight others. Witnesses say the clashes broke out early today in the eastern and central parts of the city.

U.S Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge has sought to reassure Americans about security for Tuesday's elections and beyond afetr the release of a video by al-Qaida terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. At a briefing in Washington Saturday, Mr. Ridge said there are no specific threaths for election day, and he said the United States is safer than ever before.

With two days remaining before the U.S. presidential election, President Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry are making their final appeals for votes in campaign stops in tightly-contested states.
