Laos Appeals to International Community for Continued Support in Fights Against Drugs - 2004-09-30


In his speech to the 59th UNGA on Sept. 27, Laos’Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Somsavat Lengsavad calls on the international community to work collectively to rid the world of weapons of mass destruction, and to cooperate in the fight against drug scourge, while appealing to the world community for continued financial support to assist his nation in addressing a number of challenges posed by drug problems.

He also reaffirms Laos’ position to continue to cooperate with the international community in the fight against terrorism.

Laos top diplomat also says over the past year the Lao people of all ethnics, all walks of life and religion have been living in solidarity and harmony, ensuring a solid socio-political stability across the country, while the economy has enjoyed a sustained growth rate of 6.5%.
