Laos Drafts Laws to Restrict Internet Access - 2004-09-29


Laos is drafting laws to regulate website content in an effort to control the flow of online information and images. Laotian authorities say the laws aim to protect youngsters from misinformation via the Internet, by authorizing the government to block undesireable information and websites that will affect internal security and national culture, such as the ones on pornography and violence.

There are currently approximately 20,000 Internet users in Laos.
