Iraqi officials say at least 13 people were killed and 55 wounded in fighting taht erupted early today (Sunday) between U.S forces and insurgents on a street in central Baghdad. Gunfire crackled on Haifa Street, where people were seen cheering near a burning U.S armored vehicle before helicopters fired on targets in the area.
Indonesian police are warning of more suicide attacks in the capital, Jakarta, after a truck bomb Thursday killed nine people and wounded more than 180 in front of the Australian embassy. National Police chief Dai'i Bachtiar says Indonesia continues to face a threat from terrorists who could be recruiting for anpther strike.
Voters in Hong Kong are casting ballots in a legislative election that pits pro-Beijing party candidates against those who favor greater democracy for the territory. The polls opened at 7:30 am local time and will stay open for 15 hours. Results are expected early Monday.
