Australia is warning about the danger of a new terrorist attack in Jakarta, one day after a car bombing outside the Australian embassy in the Indonesian capital killed nine people and wounded 180 others.
Australian Prime Minister John Howard says intelligence gathered since Thursday's bombing shows that those responsible have enough operatives in Indonesia to carry out another attack.
The United States, South Korea and Japan have agreed that a fourth round of six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program should be held by the end of this month. Speaking after consultations in Tokyo today (Friday) by senior officials from the three countries, a Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman said there is agreement that the talks should go ahead as scheduled.
The Arabic satellite television channel Al-Jazeera has broadcast a videotape of a senior al-Qaida leader saying the United States is on the brink of defeat in Iraq and on the run in Afghanistan. In the video, Ayman al-Zawahiri, a deputy of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, says the defeat of American forces in Iraq is just a matter of time.
