Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavat says the trial of the Vangtao suspects will be open and will proceed according to the requirements of the national constitution. However, the proceedings are still in the investigative stage and it will take quite a while before the trial begins.
The 16 Lao nationals suspected of involvement in the Vangtao-Chongmek raid in 2000 will be tried as criminals on charges of destroying government properties.
