Laos and other new ASEAN members will receive assistance in developing IT links to combat transnational organized crime. The pledge came during the 24th ASEAN Police Chiefs Conference which opened today in Chiengmai, Thailand, with the aim of formulating a concerted action plan to combat transnational organized crime.
Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister, Chaovalit Yongchaiyut, told delegates that transnational organized crime can undermine democracy, disrupt free market, drain national assets, and inhibit the development of stable societies.
