Laos: Economic Growth Not As Fast As Targeted - 2004-08-04

Lao officials acknowledge failure to achieve economic growth at the targeted rate of 7%, saying the economy has been expanding at the rate of only 6.4% for the first seven months of 2004, while inflation shot up to 13% and foreign investment increased by $276 millions.

The acknowledgement came during the just-concluded July meeting of the Lao cabinet.
