U.S. congressional committees are due to hold hearings today(Tuesday) onn recommendations of the independent commission that investigated intelligence and security lapses before September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The United States has urged Israel to abide by the internationally-backed "road map" peace plan that calls for an end to all settlement activity in occupied territory.

South Korea has expressed regret at North Korea's decision to boycott ministerial-level talks that were scheduled to begin today (Tuesday) in Seoul. South Korea's unification ministry called on Pyongyang to hold cabinet-level talks as soon as possible to discuss pushing forward inter-Korean ties.
