Mr. Hiem Phommachanh, Laos ambassador to Thailand, tells VOA the trial process against the 16 Vangtao raid suspects is currently in the investigative stage and will not take long or drag on, considering the availability of witnesses and evidences. The remaining major task is to question the suspects in court.
Thai authorities turned over the 16 Lao nationals accused of involvement in the raid at the Vangtao-Chongmek checkpoint in July of 2000 to officials of Laos' Champassack province on July 4th.
